A new beginning We moved to Nashville in 1988. I had to find a prothetic shop to service my leg, so I looked through the yellow pages to find one. For some reason I decided to try Dillard Prothetic's on Church Street. I went there one late afternoon and met Ed and Chuck Dillard. I was wearing a below knee leg with an elastic waist belt attached to my leg to hold it on as this was the suspension system at the time. I talked to them about my leg and they both decided I needed to improve this suspension and lose the belt and fitted me with a sleeve. I couldn't believe this was happening and stepped into the modern age of prosthetics. They also made an appointment for me to get a new leg started. Ed was Chuck's father and was an above the knee amputee giving him a first hand understanding what it was all about with this condition. Ed donated his time overseas in the Ukraine for a few months each year for 3 years to make legs for these people, doing what he could to help them. Chuck was an old school by the numbers type of craftsman. Each leg he made, he would always make me buy a new pair of shoes and made the new leg alignment based on the shoes I furnished. He made several legs for me. Chuck finally retired and sold the business to Aaron Sorensen.
